Things We Can Know
1 John 5:13-21
1. We can know that we have eternal life.
“Christianity is not an ‘I hope so’ or ‘I think so’ faith. It is an ‘I know so’ faith because what has been revealed in the Bible was given to us by God, a God who speaks and a God who speaks only truth.” —Daniel Akin
2. We can know that God answers prayer.
“Prayer is the key that unlocks all the storehouses of God’s infinite grace and power. All that God is and all that God has is at the disposal of prayer. But we must use the key. Prayer can do anything that God can do, and since God can do anything, prayer is omnipotent.” —R. A. Torrey
4. We can know that we have victory over sin.
5. We can know that we belong to God.
“We are in a global conflict with an enemy that influences, and in many instances controls cultures, societies, finances, and even governments. This ‘evil empire’ under the ‘sway of the evil one’ opposes with vehemence the advancement of the gospel, ministries of mercy, and care for the weak and the helpless. He hates who we are and what we are trying to accomplish. This requires on our part a wartime mentality and commitment. Sacrifices must be made, and strategies bathed in spiritual wisdom must be created and implemented. But know this: as we move forward, we are children of God, a God who is in us and who is greater than he who is in the world. We are his, and he will protect us.” — Daniel Akin
5. We can know what is true.
