James 1:9-12
“A ‘paradox’ is a seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that when investigated or explained may prove to be well founded or true.”—Online Dictionary
“A paradox is truth standing on its head shouting for attention.” — G.K. Chesterton
If we are going to persevere through trials, then we must boast in our salvation.
1. In the midst of trials, the poor need to know that they rich.
“The message of the gospel to even the poorest and most destitute Christian is that in Christ, you are a somebody.” —Sam Allberry
2. In the midst of trials, the rich need to know that they are poor.
“It is a sign of good health indeed when a wealthy Christian enjoys reflecting on how they are nothing without Jesus; when they can laugh at the confidence the world might put in their assets and possessions, knowing themselves that the only thing of solidity and permanence in this world is the love of God shown in Christ.” — Sam Allberry
3. In the midst of trials, we need to know that that, if we remain steadfast under trial, we will receive the crown of life.
