A Fool’s Way (Proverbs 18:1-9)

Since fools ignore God, make poor decisions, and create trouble for themselves and others, it would be wise of us to get wisdom and walk in it.

1. A fool lacks wisdom.

“He (a fool) is antisocial and a loner who is absorbed with himself. His interests are located in his own desires, his own self-gratification. Further, because he is self-centered, he does not listen to the ‘sound wisdom’ of others.” —Daniel Akin

“The fool has a closed mind but an open mouth, a small mind and a big mouth. He does not listen, but he is quick to tell others what he thinks. Pride is alive and well in his soul.” —Daniel Akin

2. A fool is careless with his words.

“The sin of gossip is bearing bad news behind someone’s back out of a bad heart.” —Matt Mitchell

“We get bored and want to entertain ourselves by snacking on the shameful stories of other people’s lives. Or we get proud that we know something that someone else doesn’t and want to show off our inside scoop. Or we get mad and crave the satisfaction of character assassination from afar, sniping at our enemies when they don’t even know they’re in danger. Gossip can be hard to resist.” —Matt Mitchell

3. A fool is slack in his work.
