Godly leaders often do not know what to do in a crisis, but they always know where to turn.
A. CRISES THAT ILLICIT FEAR (20:1-3a).
B. WHERE DOES A GODLY LEADER TURN? (20:3b-13).
“O our God, … we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” (2 Chronicles 20:12).
C. THE LORD’S REASSURANCE TO US (20:14-19).
D. THE LORD’S DELIVERANCE (20:20-30).
• There are times in Scripture when the Lord responds with immediate deliverance! (like 2 Chr 20).
• But we also know that there are many other times when he doesn’t respond in that same way. (Read Heb 11 and entire NT.)
“God is the kind of God who delights…deeply…in meeting needs. Prayer is his delight because prayer shows the reaches of our poverty and the riches of his grace. Prayer is that wonderful transaction where the wealth of God’s glory is magnified and the wants of our soul are satisfied. Therefore God delights in the prayers of the upright.” (John Piper, The Pleasures of God, p.217.)
E. GODLY LEADERS FAIL WELL.
APPLICATION FOR FATHER’S DAY:
• Dad’s Emergency Protocol for the next family crisis: 2 Chronicles 20:12. Dads, you won’t always know what to do; but you can always know where to turn!
• Dad’s Rallying Cry: “The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever!” (2 Chron 20:21).
