1 Peter 4:1-6
Since Jesus suffered on the cross in our place, we must embrace suffering as we seek to faithfully follow Jesus.
- We embrace suffering by thinking like Christ.
“Peter’s point is that we are to ready ourselves to fight in this war against sin and Satan, and be prepared to suffer, possibly even die. To follow Christ is to follow him not just in vindication and glory, but also in suffering and dying—and it is to follow him in our thinking about all these things. It is to make our perspective and our expectations line up with his, and allow his words to shape our view of life.” — Juan Sanchez
“Peter is saying, ‘Beloved, grow up! Get the mind of Christ. Become a person of resolve. Be prepared. If you have been united with him by faith, you will need to identify with him in suffering.’” — David Helm
- We embrace suffering by being committed to living out our lives for the will of God.
- We embrace suffering by keeping our eternal future with Christ in view.
