1. The Peril of Unbelief (3:12)
The essence of “an evil unbelieving heart”: choosing to focus our attention and base our judgments on what God is doing that we can’t understand . . . while refusing to look at what God has said and done that we can clearly understand.
2. Our Persistent Need of Exhortation (3:13)
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:24-25
3. The Paramount Importance of Holding Fast to Christ (3:14)
Perseverance is assured for every single genuinely born-again believer. But it’s not “automatic” in the sense of input/output. The “end” is secure and sure. But getting there requires that each of us appropriate along the way the “means of grace” God has given us.
To share Christ
“By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.”—Hebrews 11:24-26
