How Should We Respond to Jesus?

Like the wise men, we too should accept Jesus Christ as King and worship him.

1. Rejection

“If Herod didn’t think Jesus was actually born, if he didn’t think Jesus might indeed be a king, the king, if he didn’t think this new king, though now just a child, could in fact dethrone him, rule over him, take allegiance from him, he would not have done what he did.”—Douglas O’Donnell

“There simply is no denying it: life this side of eternity is one big and unending war of kingdoms. Much of our inner turmoil and our interpersonal struggles are the direct result of kingdoms in conflict. Sin causes us to live inwardly directed, selfish lives instead of lives of upward worship and outward love that we were created to live.”—Paul David Tripp

2. Neglect

“They knew the facts and could quote accurately the Scriptures, but they couldn’t care less about the implications to them, nor the response demanded from them. It was sheer indifference.”— Charles Price

3. Accept

“What a scandalous scene! Ah, but what a beautiful one as well. This scene depicts so perfectly the good news of the gospel of the kingdom. This good news is for all people, even the ‘least likely candidates for God’s love.’”—Douglas O’Donnell
